Hot, humid weekend temperatures forecast for HRM

By Dan Ahlstrand

The weekend forecast for Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and the surrounding area looks more like something seen in mid-summer rather than early fall.

CityNews Halifax Meteorologist Jessie Uppal said on Friday, Sept. 8, will see a daytime high of 28 degrees Celsius (C), and with the humidity factored in, that will feel much warmer.

“You will need the summer gear,” said Uppal. “It will feel closer to 36 C once you factor in the humidity through the afternoon.”

Uppal said the forecast for Saturday, Sept. 9 is almost identical, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high temperature of 27 C that will feel like 34 C with the humidity.

“We are well above seasonal temperatures for this time of year,” said Uppal.

The humidity will push the high on Sunday, Sept 10 into the 30s again, but a system will move through the region Sunday evening, bringing about five millimetres of rain of rain later into the overnight hours.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for most of mainland Nova Scotia for Friday, Sept. 8 into Saturday, Sept. 9.

The weather agency said temperatures, with the humidex, could reach between 36 C and 38 C.
