Police watchdog finds no grounds for charges after complaint

Nova Scotia’s police watchdog says it has found no grounds to charge a Halifax police officer after an incident that left a man with serious injuries.

The Serious Incident Response Team was looking into a complaint from a man stemming from an incident back in March of this year.

SiRT said the complainent had called emergency services looking to go to detox, and was eventually arrested after allegedly kicking an officer. The man was the apparently taken down and recieved injuries including an acute subdural hematoma.

In Tuesdays report, the watchdog says after interviewing witnesses and police officers, it was determined the responding officer’s actions didn’t rise to the level of excessive force.
