Two people facing slew of firearms, drug trafficking charges

Regional police have laid a slew of firearms and drug trafficking charges after searching a home in Halifax last week.

Last Friday at roughly 5 a.m., officers conducted a search of a home on Kingsmere Court in connection to an ongoing investigation.

Police say they arrested two people at the scene and seized two loaded firearms, over 400 grams of cocaine, more than 2,000 opioid pills and approximately $17,000.

Jordon Lawrence David Cooper, 32, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Monday and Kaitlyn Jean Burns, 29, is scheduled to appear at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession of a firearm/prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime (x2)
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm   
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or ammunition without a license
  • Possession of a firearm without a license or certificate (x2)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (x2)
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2)
  • Storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations (x2)
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Tampering with the serial number on a firearm
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000   

Cooper is also facing the following charges in relation to the search:

  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x4)
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or ammunition without a license
