This year’s Remembrance Day in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) will look a little different.
The main ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s War Memorial at Sullivan’s Pond, instead of Grande Parade. That decision was made by the Royal Canadian Legion last month.
Saturday will also see several parades, and the HRM said there will be rolling street closures across the region on Saturday as a result.
From 10:30 a.m. to noon, delays are expected near Sullivan’s Pond, Province House, the cenotaph at Sackville Heritage Park and the cenotaph at Earl Francis Spryfield Memorial Royal Canadian Legion.
Ceremonies will be held in Lower Sackville, Bedford and Hammonds Plains, as well as at Point Pleasant Park.
Halifax Transit is offering free transit to all veterans and military personnel and their accompanying family members as long as they are in uniform or display their military ID when boarding.
Residents are also advised that buses will pull over at 11 a.m. to pause for three minutes of silence, to honour and remember those who served and continue to serve.
Also, on-street paid parking will be free on Monday.
