Vidicek nets shootout winner to extend Mooseheads winning streak

Make it nine wins in a row for the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Herd travelled to Charlottetown Friday night to face the Islanders. The Herd were minus both Logan Crosby and Lou Levesque, who have been sidelined by injury, and it was Marcus Vidicek who opened the scoring for the Mooseheads just past the 3:00 mark of the opening frame, finishing on a pass from Jordan Dumais. The Moose would take a 2-0 lead in the first after Reece Peitzsche scored his 6th of the season at 8:26 of the first.

The Islanders would take over the offence in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals, and looked to be cruising to a 3-2 win, but Markus Vidicek scored with just 34 seconds left on the clock to send this game into overtime. Both teams were held goalless in the extra frame, sending the contest to a shootout.

Mathis Rousseau sparkled in the shootout, stopping all three Islander attempts, and it was Marcus Vidicek again beating Islander netminder Aksels Ozols to snatch the extra point for the Mooseheads.

Rousseau was named the 1st star of the game, and the win improved the Moosehead’s record to 17-4-1-0 on the season.

The Mooseheads return to action on Saturday night as they travel to Bathurst to face the Titan. Game time is 7:00, and you can catch all of the action live from the ice with Garreth MacDonald on CityNews 95.7.
