Special Weather Statement issued for southeast Nova Scotia with more rain on the way

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for areas south of HRM in advance of a storm expected to soak the region on Wednesday.

The national forecaster says Lunenburg, Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties will see heavy rain at times, beginning Wednesday morning and carrying through into the evening and overnight hours.

The statement says those counties could see upwards of 45 mm of rain from this system, and the areas with the heaviest downpours could see that rainfall at a rate of about 15 mm per hour.

As for HRM, Environment Canada says the municipality should see rain starting in the afternoon, with heavier rains in the evening and overnight with amounts in the 30mm range. The winds will also pick up, gusting to 70 km/h, and there is a chance of snow inland and higher elevations.
