Offence dries up as Mooseheads lose to Eagles

After an emotional game Thursday, the Halifax Mooseheads simply couldn’t find the back of the net on Friday night.

It would be the Eagles scoring first in this one, as Antione Roy beat Mathis Rousseau for his fourth goal of the season to put Cape Breton up 1-0.

In the second period, the Eagles kept up the pressure. A goal from Brayden Schmitt gave Cape Breton the 2-0 lead halfway through the second period.

Roy thought he’d scored again late in the second, but the goal was overturned on review due to contact with the Halifax goalie.

Despite the fortunate call, the Mooseheads would start the third period on their heels. A number of stellar saves by Rousseau held the deficit at two for Halifax.

There was some concern early in the third as Jordan Dumais limped off the ice and went to the locker room, but he would return just moments later.

With 2:32 left in the third, Cam Squires would add to the Eagles’ lead to make it 3-0 Cape Breton, and that would be the final.

Halifax will be back in action on Sunday afternoon in Moncton. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. on CityNews 95.7.
