Tens of thousands lose power on stormy Monday in N.S.

A stormy day in Nova Scotia left thousands without power in the Halifax area and across the province.

As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nova Scotia Power was reporting more than 25,000 customers without power, almost all in the HRM.

A large outage impacting some 17,000 customers was reported from Fall River north to Noel along the Bay of Fundy, including the airport. It was unclear if the airport was impacted.

Another outage on the central Halifax peninsula saw more than 5,000 customers lose power, knocking out many traffic lights.

As of 5:30 p.m., the number of outages had dropped to 10,000. By 6 p.m., almost all those who’d lost power in the Halifax area had been restored.

The outages came on what was a rainy and windy day. A wind warning was issued late Monday afternoon for eastern Halifax and Nova Scotia.
