Three youth arrested at Bay View High School in Tantallon after ‘chemical irritant’ deployed

Bay View High School was locked down on Friday morning after police say a irritant was released inside the school.

Officers were called to the school in Upper Tantallon around 9:30 Friday morning after reports began to come in about the incident.

The RCMP said the incident began with two youths allegedly assaulting another youth outside the school, and the sensory irritant was apparently used once the group move inside the school.

Three youths have been arrested in connection with the incident, two facing assault charges and another facing assault with a weapon.

About two hours after the initial call, the school was moved from a lock down state to that of a hold and secure. As of 12:30 p.m., the Halifax Regional Centre for Education said the hold and secure had been lifted, and families notified.

RCMP say there were no serious injuries, but some students and staff were affected by the unnamed irritant.  Parents were also asked to stay away from the school while the investigation was underway.
