Schools closed as late fall storm brings snow, rain to HRM

A snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada warns of total snowfall amounts ranging from 15-20 cm for most of mainland Nova Scotia and western Cape Breton. 

The national forecaster expected the snow to continue to fall through the day today and into the evening, with a changeover to rain for parts of the province along the coast. 

It was a scheduled PD day for students in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education today, but all of the schools within HRCE have been closed today.  Elsewhere, schools within the South Shore, Chignecto Central, Annapolis Valley, Strait, and Digby County schools with the Tri-County Regional Centres for Education have closed all schools for the day today because of the weather.

Dalhousie University, Kings College and, St Marys University, NSCAD are closed this morning, as are NSCC Ivany, Akerley, Institute of Technology, Annapolis Valley, Amherst, Kingstec, Lunenburg campuses.

South Shore School Center, Rose-des-Vents (closed), Mer et Monde, Grand-Portage, Beaubassin, Sommet, Bois-Joli, Carrefour, Mosaique, Beaux-Marais, Truro, Torbé, Pomquet, Beau-Port with CSAP are closed today.

The forecast is calling for flurries to continue through the overnight hours and for most of the day Tuesday before the skies begin to clear on Wednesday and

Environment Canada says in conditions like this, surfaces like highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become slippery.
