The Nova Scotia government says a new 10-year partnership with US-based company Varian will improve cancer care in Nova Scotia.
In a release, Nova Scotia Health says the partnership will include new state-of-the-art equipment and software utilizing artificial intelligence to expand the province’s ongoing oncology project.
The $224 million dollar project will provide more screening, earlier detection of cancers and treatments that are less invasive, according to the province.
Of that total, $175 million will go towards new hardware, software, digital solutions and services while $49 million will be reserved for renovations to accommodate new equipment and create new positions to support the project.
“Our partnership with Varian means that Nova Scotia is not merely witnessing change; we are steering it,” says Karen Oldfield, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Health in the release. “(It will ensure) that every individual facing the challenges of cancer experiences the very best in care, compassion and innovation.”
