South shore to bear brunt of Sunday storm

A special weather statement remains in effect for the southern half of Nova Scotia, including HRM, in advance of a Sunday storm.

Environment Canada says while the storm remains several days away, the current track of this winter storm is expected to move further offshore than was previously forecasted, and that has seen the predicted snowfall amounts drop for some.

The national forecaster says the northern and eastern mainland of the province should see 5-10 cm of snow beginning Sunday afternoon and into Monday.  The news is much worse for those living in the southern sections of Nova Scotia, particularly those living along the South Shore, where 15-25 cm of snow could fall.

“Even if the snow stops falling, the winds will be gusty into Monday,” said CityNews weather specialist Denise Andreacchi. “Blowing and drifting snow will still impact visibility out on the roads.”

The forecast calls for strong winds as part of this storm, with winds gusting out of the east at 40-60 km/h, with the potential of stronger gusts along the Atlantic coast.
