Hockey pro from Nova Scotia thrilled with PWHL’s early start

A hockey player from Yarmouth says she’s been thrilled with the positive reaction to the new Professional Women’s Hockey League so far.

Allie Munroe plays defence for Toronto, and says the two games she has played in have been fast, exciting and well-attended with sold-out crowds.

He says she’s especially happy to help inspire young girls in Nova Scotia playing the sport.

“I really hope it inspires them,” she tells CityNews Halifax.

“I did a camp this summer in Yarmouth and just to see how excited they were with the new league and just to be on that regular broadcast is just so helpful because they can begin to have female role models, whether it is me or someone else.”

With Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull and Amherst’s Carly Jackson along with Spryfield’s Troy Ryan coaching, aspiring Nova Scotian hockey players will have plenty of idols to choose from on Toronto’s squad.

Toronto next play tonight in Minnesota, a team that made history on Saturday.

With attendance reaching more than 13,300, that match-up became the most attended professional women’s hockey game ever.
