Mooseheads fans packed Scotiabank Centre on a stormy night in Halifax to catch a rematch of the 2023 QMJHL Finals with the Quebec Remparts in town.
Quebec opened the scoring in the first period, as Loic Goyette scored his 14th of the season on a rebound in front of Mathis Rousseau.
One of the newest Mooseheads would respond in the second period with Jan Spryner scoring his first for Halifax, speeding past the defender and potting a backhand beauty to tie the game at one goal aside.
The Remparts, far from the high-flying team that beat Halifax in the finals last year, came to play in this one. Quebec would keep up the pressure and Raphael Messier’s first in the QMJHL would give the Remparts the 2-1 late in the second.
The Mooseheads seemed to wake up in the third after a slow start. Brady Schultz wired home his fourth of the season at the 7:45 mark of the third period to knot the game back up. Halifax kept pushing but this one would need overtime.
In the extra frame, the Remparts got the better of Halifax. Julien Béland’s 16th goal gave Quebec the 3-2 win.
Halifax will be back in action in Moncton on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop goes at 4 p.m. and CityNews 95.7 will have that game live.
