Classes cancelled as January storm strikes region

HRM and the eastern half of Nova Scotia from Yarmouth all of the way up to Cape Breton remain were under a snowfall warning Monday morning.

Environment Canada says they are expecting the snow to stop around noon in the west and later into the evening in the east. The national forecaster does say that with winds gusting to 80 km/h at times, there remains the potential for blowing snow conditions that could impact visibility at times and can create wind chill values that will make the temperature feel much colder than it is.

HRM can expect an additional 10 cm of snow through the day today before it tapers off to flurries in the evening and overnight hours.
All schools within HRCE are closed today with high school exams pushed ahead one day. Annapolis Valley, South Shore, Chignecto Central, Strait Regional and Tri-County Regional Centres for Education Schools also closed.

Post-secondary schools including Dalhousie, NSCC, SMU, MSVU and NSCAD campuses are closed for the day.
