Woman faces weapons charges after alleged robbery in Dartmouth

A woman has been charged after an alleged robbery in Dartmouth last month.

Halifax Regional Police said the incident happened just after midnight on Jan. 27 at the Needs on Highfield Park Dr., when a man and woman went into the store and the woman allegedly pulled out what was believed to have been a gun while the man went behind the counter to grab cigarettes and cash.

The suspects ran off and police said the employee wasn’t physically injured.

On Sunday night, officers arrested 19-year-old Mykayla Smith. She’s been charged with offences including carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of robbery with a firearm and was expected in court on Monday.

Police are continuing to look for the second suspect, described a white man in his 20s, approximately 5’7’ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a black sweater, a black puffy vest, brown Nike shoes and carrying a black backpack at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
