Halifax police charge 23-year-old with attempted murder

A 23-year-old man is facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder, in connection to a shooting in Dartmouth on Monday.

At roughly 3:10 a.m., police received a report of gun shots in the area of Catherine Street and Lahey Road where officers found a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Police say he was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while officers arrested a suspect in the area a short time later without further incident.

Trequawn Smith was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Tuesday to face charges of:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Use of firearm in the commission of offense
  • Careless handling of firearm x 2
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of prohibited device
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle x 2
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition x 2
