Rainfall warning continue as region is battered by heavy rain, strong winds

A messy start to the weekend as Environment Canada has now issued a rainfall warning for a large swath of Nova Scotia, including HRM

The warning stretches from Lunenberg County in the south all the way north to Cape Breton and is warning of rainfall amounts in the 25-50 mm range, with the potential for more local downpours.

The national forecaster says the rain will begin this evening and should carry through the day Saturday before a changeover to snow and ice pellets which could create slippery driving conditions.

There is some concern for localized flooding as the rain mixes with melting snow, and with the ground frozen, it cannot absorb any water.

Environment Canada is also warning of some strong winds associated with this storm.  Gusts of 70-80 km/h are possible in areas.
