The sloppy mess created by melting snow and Friday night and Saturday’s heavy rain is going to freeze quickly in HRM and the surrounding area.
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for an area stretching from Lunenberg County to the south to Cape Breton. The national forecaster predicts that rain will change over to ice pellets and snow by mid-afternoon Saturday, and with temperatures quickly dropping below the freezing mark, Untreated surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become icy, slippery, and hazardous.
The strong winds HRM saw overnight Friday will continue into Saturday afternoon, gusting to 50 km/h before dropping off through the night and into the overnight hours.
