The province releases its latest plan to protect coastal communities from climate change

The Nova Scotia government is hoping to build more climate-resilient coastal communities and homes with a brand new plan.

With over a dozen actions, the Future of Nova Scotia’s Coastline is an ambitious plan announced by Environment Minister Timothy Halman today.

Those actions are intended for property owners, municipalities and the province to help tackle climate change challenges, especially in coastal or other susceptible areas.

Halman also announced a new navigator service will help coastal property owners understand the risks on their property and how they can mitigate them.

More than $3 million in funding from the plan will support some of the 15 actions, including $1.6-million towards municipal flood-line maps so people have more information on flooding risks and to help municipalities better zone at-risk land.

Another $1.6-million will top-up the Community Climate Capacity Program, administered on behalf of the Province by Clean Foundation.
