Nova Scotia’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal crash that took place Monday evening in Hammonds Plains.

At roughly 7:05 p.m., Mounties attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1800 block of Hammonds Plains Road as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to police, the vehicle, a black GMC pick up truck, took off and turned onto Glen Arbour Way where it crashed moments later near Skye Crescent.

Mounties say the vehicle left the roadway, struck a power pole and came to rest in the ditch.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Bedford, was found outside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by EHS.

Police say the matter has since been referred to the Serious Incident Response Team.
