Large waves and pounding surf expected along Atlantic coast Monday morning

The rainfall warning that was in effect for HRM and most of mainland Nova Scotia over the weekend has ended, but the impacts of Sunday’s weather will still be felt along the Atlantic coast

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of the potential of large waves Monday morning.

The national forecaster says large waves and pounding surf will produce higher-than-normal water levels along the coast, primarily near high tide. These large waves can cause coastal erosion in vulnerable areas and damage infrastructure along the shoreline, especially at locations that have been prone to impacts during similar events.

Forecasters say the most significant waves will likely hit the coastline between 8 and 10 a.m.
