Three of the four people who had been sleeping rough at Grande Parade as of Monday morning have left, according to the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The municipality issued a statement at about 9 a.m., saying the four people tenting in front of city hall were being told to pack up and leave.
In a follow-up, HRM said just one person remained at the site as of 1 p.m. and staff were continuing to work with the person to find a space for the indoors.
HRM says that the Province of Nova Scotia has assured the municipality that indoor options are available for these individuals. The municipality has worked with the province to ensure that spaces are reserved for people from de-designated locations at the Multi-Purpose Centre of the Halifax Forum.
On Friday, the last person living at Victoria Park, another de-designated encampment site, was removed with police assistance. That site has been fenced off as cleanup and remediation work is underway.
