NSTU planning rally today to raise awareness of challenges facing teachers in HRM

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) will be holding a rally today to address the challenges facing schools.

Between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. this afternoon, the Our Kids Can’t Wait rally will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion on Sackville Cross Road in Lower Sackville.

According to the NSTU, union president Ryan Lutes will be in attendance to help address the rising levels of violence, deteriorating classroom conditions and the growing teacher shortage, particularly in the HRM.

The union is set to take a strike vote tomorrow after saying that bargaining talks have stalled with the province after nearly ten months of negotiating.
