Rainfall warning issued for Halifax area

Some wet weather is in the forecast heading into the weekend in the Halifax area.

A rainfall warning was issued Thursday afternoon along the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada said 40 to 60 mm of rain is expected beginning Friday morning and continuing Friday night.

Forecasters say that areas along the Eastern Shore could see upwards of 70 mm of rain from the storm.

“Embedded thundershowers may contribute to locally heavy downpours,” the statement read. “Gusty winds of near 80 km/h will accompany the rain. Conditions will improve late in the day on Saturday from west to east.”

The national forecaster said the warning may be expanded to include areas in Cape Breton as the event draws nearer.
