Sidney Crosby records 1,000th assist, moves into 10th on all-time scoring list

By SportsNet Staff

Sidney Crosby is willing the Pittsburgh Penguins to the playoffs, and he’s setting all kinds of milestones as he does.

With his assist on the Penguins’ overtime winner over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, he recorded his 1,000th career assist and moved into solo 10th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.

Oh, did we mention the game-winning goal also moved the Penguins into the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference?

Not a bad night for No. 87.

Crosby became the 14th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career assists.

The assist on Erik Karlsson’s winner was also Crosby’s 1,591th career point, helping him pass Phil Esposito on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. Crosby tied Esposito’s mark with a goal earlier in the game.

We’ve seen Crosby do some incredible things over his NHL career, but what he’s doing to end this season is truly a sight to behold.

And with the rate he’s going, his season could be far from over.
