Teen charged with attempted murder after stabbing on Lacewood

A 16-year-old is facing charges including attempted murder after a stabbing in Clayton Park on Monday that sent a nearby high school into lockdown.

Halifax Regional Police said an 18-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries at about 11:45 a.m. after being stabbed in the 300 block of Lacewood Dr.

The incident caused Halifax West High School to go into a hold and secure for about 30 minutes over the noon hour on Monday.

In an update, HRP said the suspect turned themselves into police at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday after initially fleeing the scene of the alleged stabbing. The youth is charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder and was expected to appear in youth court on Tuesday.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story said the victim was a “youth”. Halifax Regional Police has sent a correction and now says the victim was an 18-year-old man.
