MacKay Bridge northbound lanes now open after shutting down for ’emergency maintenance’

A Halifax-bound lane of the MacKay Bridge has reopened this morning after closing Wednesday during rush hour due to an emergency maintenance issue.

Just after 6 a.m. on Thursday, an official from HHB told CityNews Halifax that all northbound lanes have reopened.

During the evening commute, Halifax Harbour Bridges (HBB) announced the closure of one of the two northbound lanes on Wednesday.

There was no word on the nature of the maintenance, but HHB said the lane would be closed for 15 hours.

“Heavy traffic issues are likely,” an HBB spokesperson told CityNews Halifax.

The closure was creating significant delays on Highway 111.
