Halifax hosting ‘crucial’ international figure skating competition

Halifax is hosting the Skate Canada International competition for its 50th anniversary.

The competition will bring figure skaters from across Canada and around the world to the province’s capital. The event runs from Oct. 24-27 at the Scotiabank Centre.

“Not only is this event a chance for fans to enjoy the very best that the sport has to offer, but an opportunity to celebrate 50 years of world-class competition in Canada,” the press release from Skate Canada reads.

This is the fourth time Halifax has hosted the competition since its inception in 1973.

According to the organization, the competition is a “crucial stop” for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, allowing athletes to earn qualifying points.

Further details of the competition will be announced later this year.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with the City of Halifax to bring the world of figure skating back to the Maritimes for the 2024 Skate Canada International,” Debra Armstrong, Skate Canada’s Chief Executive Officer, said in the press release.
