Province appoints new director of Serious Incident Response Team

The province appointed a director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT).

Erin Nauss was serving as interim director of the province’s police watchdog for the last seven months. She is now appointed as director.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Barbara Adams — who was just recently appointed after Brad Johns resigned — made the announcement on Wednesday.

“The Serious Incident Response Team has an important mandate on behalf of Nova Scotians,” Adams said in a press release. “Ms. Nauss has done an exceptional job leading SiRT as interim director, and we’re pleased to appoint her as permanent Director.”

According to the press release, Nauss has 18 years of legal experience and practised briefly in the private sector before joining the province as a solicitor in 2007.

The SiRT is a civilian-led organization that independently investigates incidents involving police in N.S. and New Brunswick.

The position is five years and will take effect immediately, the statement reads.
