Man who prompted emergency alert in Dartmouth turns himself in: Police

Late Wednesday night, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) charged the man who prompted an emergency alert earlier this week in the Gaston Road area.

Officials say David John Campbell, 49, was arrested without incident when he turned himself in.

He is charged with assault, uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death and failing to comply with conditions of a probation order.

On April 30 at around 9:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a man in the 0-100 block of Gaston Road who was threatening people known to him.

The suspect fled before officers were on scene. At the time police believed the suspect could have been armed, prompting an emergency alert at 10:20 a.m.

The reason for the alert was due to the possibility of a firearm and that the suspect was in a populated area, police said in a press release.

In a statement on Tuesday, officers confirmed another man in his 50s was arrested by police but officials say it was for “an unrelated matter.”
