Dalhousie University is reversing plans for a significant tuition increase for the Master’s of Architecture program.
The recently approved 2024/25 operating budget included a 63 per cent increase to that program’s tuition, amounting to an increase of about $7,000.
The summer program is set to begin on Monday, May 6, and communication about the increase didn’t come until May 2.
“Responding to feedback on this proposed change, the Faculty of Architecture & Planning is returning to an expected 2% tuition rate increase, effective immediately,” said Dalhousie senior communications manager Mike Fluery in a statement to CityNews.
A message to students from the Dean of Architecture and Planning, Graham Gagnon, acknowledged students and faculty were “caught off guard” by the propsed tution increase.
“We acknowledge the feedback from our community around the way this change was communicated and want to assure you that we are listening,” Gagnon wrote.
The message said students can enroll in the program effective immediately and the change will be reflected on their student accounts by early next week “as Student accounts takes the necessary action”.
