RCMP investigating homicide in North Preston

Just before midnight on May 8, the Halifax Regional Detachment of the RCMP received a report that a man had been shot in North Preston.
The incident happened on Downey Road near the 1100 block. Officers, who were nearby on an unrelated matter, arrived within minutes, the press release from the RCMP reads.
On scene, authorities found a 36-year-old Westphal man with gunshot wounds. They “immediately” began first aid, the release reads. The man was later transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

RCMP is investigating this as a homicide. Early information to the police indicated multiple shots had been fired.
“At this time, there’s no information to suggest that this incident was the result of a random act,” the police said.
