House fire in Bedford displaces 4 families

By CityNews Halifax Staff

No injuries were reported as emergency crews responded to a house fire in Bedford on Monday.

Halifax fire’s David Meldrum told CityNews the fire on Utopia Lane was called in just before 3 p.m. He says the rear of a townhouse assembly was on fire.

“Unfortunately, there is heavy fire damage to two of four units in the assembly and water, smoke, and firefighting activity-related damage in two more units,” Meldrum said. “Therefore, we anticipate four families will be displaced at least overnight.”

Gary Martin Drive was closed for a period of time from late afternoon into the evening.
