The Nova Scotia Government has announced funding for a new community centre in Portapique.
Premier Tim Houston announced the funding to the Portaupique Community Centre, which is set to open its doors on Saturday.
“The grand opening of the new community centre for Portapique is indeed an occasion for commemoration,” Houston said. “It represents the community’s journey of healing and harmony. As we celebrate the centre, let us honour the legacy of those who were lost by living each day with purpose, passion and gratitude.”
According to the province, it will help address multiple recommendations from the Mass Casualty Commission’s final report.
As part of the funding, the community centre will get $425,000 while the Municipality of the County of Colchester will receive $748,000 to help with operating costs.
