Two arrested following stabbing incident in Springhill

Two people have been arrested in relation to a stabbing incident in Springhill after a vehicle collision in the early hours of June 10.

Cumberland County District RCMP were called to the 100 block of McGee Street around 4:40 a.m. after reports of a vehicle running into a parked car.

Police say a 50-year-old man from Springhill, who witnessed the incident, tried to stop the suspects from leaving and was subsequently stabbed.

He was transported to the hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects, identified as a 31-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both from Springhill, initially managed to evade officers at the scene, but a day later, police found and arrested the woman. A warrant was issued for the 22-year-old man, Spencer Hatton, who was also safely arrested later that day.

Hatton has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on June 18 to face multiple charges, including Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm.

The 31-year-old unidentified woman has been released on conditions. She is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on August 12 on charges of Failing to Stop After an Accident and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
