Halifax MP stepping away from federal politics ahead of expected mayoral bid
Andy Fillmore is quitting federal politics.
“Mr. Speaker, it’s with mixed emotions that I rise to speak in the chamber today for the last time as the member for Halifax,” Fillmore said Monday. “I’ve informed the Prime Minister that when the House of Commons resumes in the Fall I will not be returning.”
Fillmore served as the MP for Halifax for nine years, winning three elections since 2015.
His resignation comes amid speculation about a mayoral bid.
Fillmore told CityNews last week he would have more to say on a potential run for mayor by the end of June.
