Weather delays the upcoming weekend closure of MacKay Bridge

A planned closure of the MacKay Bridge this weekend has been called off due to forecasted rain.

Halifax Harbour Bridges had a scheduled weekend shutdown of the cross-harbour span for maintenance that was to last Friday night at 7 p.m. until Monday at 5:30 a.m. as part of four planned summer closures.

HHB Spokesperson Steve Proctor tells CityNews Halifax that has been called off as the type of work needed cannot be done in the rain.

“We have looked at the situation with the contractors and the specialists and they said, ‘We just can’t do it this weekend,'” Proctor said. “So the bridge will be open and we’ll have to delay the closure to sometime later this summer.”

There is no confirmed date yet for the rescheduling, he said.

The next planned weekend closure of the MacKay will be the weekend of July 5.
