Impaired youth arrested after ATV ended up in a ditch, passenger injured

A crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Little Judique, N.S. has resulted in a youth being arrested by the RCMP.

Officials said it happened July 3 at about 8:00 p.m. on Shore Road in Inverness County. Police were told an ATV left the road and was found in a ditch.

The impact of the crash threw the 19-year-old passenger from the vehicle. The Long Point woman suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital, RCMP’s release reads.

A Port Hawkesbury youth was uninjured and while interacting with Mounties exhibited signs of impairment. In the breath samples on the road, police said he failed the screening device.

After being transported to hospital, the male youth’s breath samples registered 150 mg per cent — the legal limit is 80 mg per cent.

He was released from custody and will be at the Youth Justice Court at a later date.
