Spryfield beach added to list of unsafe swimming areas in Halifax area

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is advising people and their pets to avoid swimming Cunard Pond Beach in Spryfield.

HRM says due to high bacteria levels, a water quality advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

According to the municipality, high bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife and impacts from climate change, such as high temperatures, lower water levels and recent heavy rainfall.

The statement reads that staff will continue testing the water and the advisory will be lifted once bacteria levels are once again within Health Canada guidelines.

Birch Cove and Shubie Park beaches are also listed on HRM’s unsafe to swim list.
