No SailGP for Halifax in 2025 but hopes remain for 2026

Canada’s SailGP is expressing disappointment after news the international sailing tournament will not be making a stop in Halifax next year.

SailGP released its 2025 schedule on Tuesday and it did not include any competitions in Canada.

Hopes were high after a successful race in Halifax in June.

“SailGP’s Season 5 announcement is disappointing for all of us, especially given that our first Canadian event was a stand out, record-breaking success with over 50,000 spectators in attendance,” read a statement from Canada’s SailGP team.

“Sail Nova Scotia is already in discussions with SailGP to confirm an event in 2026, and we’re optimistic that we will be back in Canada in Season 6.”

According to Sail Nova Scotia an economic impact study into the recent event in Halifax is underway, but it says on average the races in Season 4 contributed around US $19 million to regional economies.

“The ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix was the culmination of over two years of work for a large team and it resulted in a huge success for our city, province and country. We are looking ahead to 2026, with the confidence that we can make the event even bigger and better,” said Frank Denis, Executive Director of Sail Nova Scotia.
