Pictou RCMP lay over 50 charges after seizing significant amount of firearms

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Pictou County RCMP have laid a large amount of charges against three people following a significant seizure of firearms in Greenwood, northwest of the provincial capital.

On June 27, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Maclellans Brook Road in connection to an ongoing investigation.

Mounties said during their search, they seized twenty firearms as well as ammunition, magazines, cash and what’s believed to be illicit drugs.

According to RCMP, Several of the items seized are believed to be pellet guns and, despite their appearance, may not meet the legal criteria to be considered a firearm.

Police are working with the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Support Team to assess the muzzle velocity and other factors that differentiate between firearms and pellet guns.

Mounties arrested five people during their search, but later released two of them without charges.

Harry Elliot Decoff, 41, of Greenwood, Inez Hodgson, 69, of Greenwood, and Frank Alexander Hayman, 51, of Black Point, will face 52 charges related to firearms, drugs, and other offences.

They will make their first court appearances at Pictou Provincial Court in September.
