Water quality advisory issued for Kinap Beach

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax Regional Municipality issued a water quality advisory for Kinap Beach due to high bacteria levels in the water.

That means people are being advised not to swim at the supervised beach in Porters Lake until further notice. High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife or from high temperatures, lower water levels and recent heavy rainfall.

In a release, the municipality said staff will continue testing the water and will lift the advisory when levels reach Health Canada guidelines.

While a recreational water quality advisory is in effect, use of the beach area is at the user’s own risk.

HRM said lifeguards will remain on-site during regular hours to advise against swimming.
