Canada’s Alysha Newman won a bronze medal in women’s pole vault at the Paris Olympics Wednesday.

The Canadian pole vault veteran came in third behind Australia’s Nina Kennedy and Katie Moon of the U.S.

Newman qualified for her first career Olympic final on Monday when she cleared 4.55 metres at Paris 2024. She tied for seventh in qualification.

Newman, 30, is in her third Olympics.

The London, Ont. native has battled injuries throughout her career, including an ankle injury that kept her out of this year’s world indoor championships.

She makes history as the first woman to win a medal for Canada in the event.
