Dartmouth animal shelter seeks help after dozens of cats seized from home

An animal rescue shelter in Dartmouth has reached capacity after 24 cats and kittens were taken from a single home.

According to a release from Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, almost all of the 24 are kittens and were in need of immediate veterinary care.

Bide Awhile was notified last week by a woman who formerly ran a private cat rescue about the cats in need and requested help.

A representative from Bide Awhile told the Canadian Press there are another 60 cats in and around the same home that are in less urgent need of intervention.

It is believed that the owner of the young cats was hoarding them until it became too much to handle. Bide Awhile is asking for donations to help look after the cats in need.

The organization says it has been community funded since its founding in 1969, leading to the care of tens of thousands of animals over 54 years.
