Two more beaches in HRM issued water quality advisories

By CityNews Halifax Staff

UPDATE: The water quality advisory at Kidston Beach was lifted as of Monday, Aug. 19. The advisory at Albro Lake Beach remained in effect.

A couple more beaches in the Halifax Regional Municipality are under a recreational water quality advisory.

The advisory comes just a day after residents were asked to avoid swimming at Oakfield Park Beach in Oakfield, Penhorn Beach in Dartmouth and Bedford’s Sandy Lake Beach until further notice.

Kidston Beach in Halifax and Albro Lake Beach in Dartmouth have been tested with high bacteria levels in the water and residents are advised to avoid swimming at these areas.

Lifeguards will remain on site to advise against swimming and the water will be tested regularly.

High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife and impacts from climate change, such as high temperatures, lower water levels and recent heavy rainfall.
