Rainfall warning issued for HRM east of Porters Lake

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Halifax County east of Porters Lake Guysborough, Pictou and Antigonish counties.

The national forecaster says 40 to 60 mm of rain is expected in those areas this afternoon and through the evening and overnight hours. Some locations could see the rainfall at 20 to 40 millimetres per hour.

Forecasters say that in the past, a large amount of rain over a short period has resulted in hazardous driving conditions due to water pooling on roadways, localised flooding, and elevated water levels in creeks and streams.

For the urban areas of HRM and to the south, the forecast for Monday afternoon calls for 10-30 mm of rain throughout the afternoon, tapering to showers by early evening.
