Search called off for missing kayaker near Halifax

The search has concluded for a woman reported missing at Long Lake Provincial Park.

Halifax Regional Police began searching for Jashandeep Kaur, 26, on Sunday afternoon. She was reported missing after going kayaking at the Spryfield-area lake.

In an update Wednesday, police said Kaur has not been found and the investigation would continue as a missing persons case.

On Tuesday, crews said Kaur’s kayak, life jacket and cellphone had been located.

She is described as a slim South Asian woman, about 5’5 with long dark hair. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and white and black sneakers.

“Halifax Regional Police extends our sincere thanks to the many partners and community members who volunteered and assisted the search, including, Halifax Search and Rescue, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and Department of Natural Resources and Renewables,” police said in a news release.

Anyone with information is still being asked to get in touch with police or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
