Local police celebrate ‘pawsome’ members on International Dog Day

Police agencies in the Halifax area are celebrating some of thier furry members on International Dog Day.

“Police Service Dog Cain & Police Service Dog Kron are two pawsome members from the K-9 Unit,” said a social media post from Halifax Regional Police. “Our K-9 teams have many duties. To name a few: they help track lost people; search for suspects & detect illicit drugs.”

HRP says it’s K-9 units include eight teams of service dogs and handlers. It says the dogs are specially trained and must pass a medical examination and behavioural tests before to joining the unit.

The Nova Scotia RCMP also shared the paws-itive efforts of their canines.

“Today is dedicated to recognizing our police service dogs with RCMP NS Police Dog Services and the critical role they play in our communities. They are able to locate missing children, detect explosives and narcotics, and help keep our members safe!”
