Upcoming construction at West End intersection could cause headaches for commuters

Summer construction season is in full force across the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and the latest work will impact motorists in the West End.

HRM says starting Thursday, construction at the intersection of Oxford Street and Jubilee Road could create some headaches as detours will be in place for vehicles with Halifax Transit seeing a considerable change for bus riders.

Bus Routes 1 and 24 will detour to Robie Street and Quinpool Road and several surrounding bus stops on Oxford Street and on Coburg Road will be shut down while the work is in progress.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Municipality’s website to see what specific bus stops may be impacted.

According to a release, HRM says the work is needed to upgrade traffic lights and repair infrastructure to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety with the work is expected to be completed by Tuesday.

The work is not the only construction tying up West End traffic with other projects underway, including the installation of a natural gas pipeline has reduced lanes on Oxford Street near the Quinpool intersection.
